The Family Medicine Residency Program at Sinai Chicago believes everyone should have access to efficient, compassionate, quality care — regardless of financial circumstances. We want residents who share this same core belief.

Looking good on paper is one thing; however, we want residents who truly embody the spirit of family medicine. Residents who hear all the stats about health disparities and want to do something about it. Residents who know that building relationships with families is just as important as conducting thorough physical exams and following up on labs.

Residents just like you.

As a resident, you will learn about the paradigm of family medicine and be able to confidently provide care that is family-oriented, cost-effective, and patient centered. Learn more about the research we are doing related to social determinants of health and health equity.

Top 7 Reasons to Come to Sinai

Located in one of the nation’s largest underserved communities, Sinai Chicago is committed to making a real difference in the lives of our patient population who live right in our backyard. Serving our community by reducing health inequities is not just what we do — it’s who we are.

Diversity is more than just a word in our mission statement — it’s a concept we deeply value and is ingrained in our institution. Sinai Chicago is situated in the midst of many culturally-rich and diverse neighborhoods, where you’ll have the opportunity to be a part of a community that represents all ethnicities, backgrounds, and walks of life.

To become an excellent doctor, you need a variety of experiences — and Sinai Chicago offers exactly that. Gain extensive experience working at Sinai’s different clinics and hospitals in Chicago and caring for your own continuity panel at ACCESS at Sinai, a Federally Qualified Health Center. Diversify your experience with a 1 month outside elective rotation and a minimum of 6 months total of elective rotations.

Residents graduate with confidence in their knowledge, skills, and independence when beginning their attending careers. Engage in Journal Club, case presentations, quality improvement projects, and 4 hours of dedicated comprehensive didactic sessions every Friday morning — among plenty of other robust training opportunities. Plus, we’ll support your education through an annual educational stipend, AAFP membership, access to UpToDate medical library and days off for conferences and interviews.

Be a part of a place where co-residents and faculty are like family. With our frequent lunches and picnics, and approachable faculty, you can nurture genuine connections and friendships. Plus, with our Wellness Program, you can ensure you’re at your best to be a part of our community.

Collaboration with Sinai Urban Health Institute and Sinai Community Institute offers real ways to understand and make a difference in health disparities and inequities in Chicago communities. From research to outreach opportunities, you can not only enhance your education but also improve our city.

Home to deep dish pizza, world-renowned architecture, any kind of museum you could imagine, and not one but two baseball teams, Chicago has something for everyone. Not to mention, Sinai Chicago is situated in the medical district — just 10 minutes from downtown Chicago.

The Lifestyle Medicine Residency Curriculum

The Lifestyle Medicine Residency Curriculum (LMRC) is a comprehensive, applicable, and flexible curriculum designed for integrated implementation of lifestyle medicine into medical residency programs. Upon completion of both the educational and practicum components of the curriculum, residents are qualified for the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine certification exam. This means our residents that opt to complete the curriculum are able to be double boarded in Family Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine by the end of their 3 year program.

The Family Medicine curriculum is designed to be delivered by residents to their peers, who become a local resource for Lifestyle Medicine information under direct faculty supervision. The educational component includes 40 hours of didactic material online and 60 hours of application activities completed independently and together.

The practicum component enables residents to clearly demonstrate ongoing exposure to and use of the principles of Lifestyle Medicine. All of our residents are enrolled, learning from the educational component and applying their new skills in all clinical settings with patients. This program is unique, as few programs nationwide are implementing lifestyle medicine education and advocacy within underserved populations.
