The Internal Medicine Residency Program at Sinai Chicago is all about training physicians who can best treat the underserved communities and patients who need them most.

That means the busy, working parents who are too stretched to even think about self-care. It means the older folks who are managing a chronic condition or two. It means the health-conscious, free-spirit patients who need a nudge to get a check-up.

Our curriculum includes comprehensive clinical, practical, and didactic input from our expansive health care team. As a resident in the Internal Medicine Residency Program, you can be a key part of that team.

The Internal Medicine Residency Program relies on the excellence of our residents to continually push us forward in our mission and research to end health inequities and disparities. Our community depends on it.

My Journey Has Been One
of Challenges and Triumphs

A mentor once told me, “Patients are not problems to solve, but people to care for.” The people in our community deserve empathetic physicians who are willing to understand their barriers to care, even if we’ve never experienced those barriers ourselves. Training at Sinai Chicago means becoming a physician who makes an impact for the people who need it most.

Top 7 Reasons to Come to Sinai Chicago

Sinai Chicago not only serves a diverse patient population, but works hard to cultivate the diverse residents and faculty who can effectively provide them care. Here, you have an opportunity to impact a community that feels disconnected and misunderstood by the health care system due to a lack of representation and health literacy. Here, you can make a difference.

The Internal Medicine Residency Program is nurturing, supportive, and here to help you be your best. Our program is like a family, and you will receive a faculty mentor as well as teaching and mentoring opportunities with students from Ross University School of Medicine and American University of the Caribbean. We put you — and your mental health — first. We offer a comprehensive wellness curriculum, Wellness Wednesdays, an annual resident retreat, and psychologist sessions available to all residents.

There’s a lot that goes into being an excellent physician, and in the Sinai Chicago Internal Medicine Residency Program we aim to create well-rounded — and well-informed — graduates. You will have the opportunity to participate in our journal club, teaching rounds, grand rounds, Hopkins curriculum and Harvard lectures, morbidity and mortality reports (CSI), mock codes training, the survival series lectures, and faculty didactic lectures.

The program covers the conference attendance for ACP, ACC, SGIM, SHM, or any other national conference if an abstract submitted by a resident is accepted either for a poster or oral presentation. We offer educational leave for conferences, and up to 5 days leave for any fellowship or employment interviews. Educational stipends are also available in the amounts of:

  • PGY-1: $60,340.00 yr = $29.01 hr
  • PGY-2: $62,671.86 yr = $30.13 hr
  • PGY-3: $64,836.10 yr = $31.17 hr
  • PGY-4: $67,594.18 yr = $32.50 hr
  • PGY-5: $70,415.90 yr = $33.85 hr
  • PGY-6: $73,343.71 yr = $35.26 hr
  • PGY-7: $74,810.00 yr = $35.97 hr

In addition to the extensive training available, joining the Sinai Chicago family also means getting access to the resources and support that come with it. The Internal Medicine Residency Program will cover the cost of your BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications. You also will receive ACP membership, MKSAP subscription, and Dragon dictation software.

At Sinai Chicago, you will care for complex patients at advanced stages and with atypical presentations of even the most common conditions. This means accelerating your hands-on skills and medical judgment. So when you graduate, you are fully prepared to become an independent physician with great confidence.

If you can picture yourself having a picnic at Millennium Park, working out on the Lakefront, cheering for the Bears, or just walking through the Loop, then you’re going to love Chicago. With its rich history and neighborhood feel, there’s no limit to things to do or places to explore.
